This Thermal Resistance Calculator calculates the opposition to the flow of heat based upon the material’s thermal conductivity, thickness of the material and cross sectional area. The thermal resistance is analogus to the electrical resistance.

Method 1 of Thermal Resistance Calculator

Use this mode during the initial design phase, when the physical geometry and materials of the component are known.

Search and Select the Material: Click the search box and select the material The tool automatically filters a built-in database of 1,000+ materials and populates the Thermal Conductivity (k) in [W/m·K]. You can bypass the search and type in manually if you have custom manufacturer data.

Enter Thickness (d): Enter the linear length of the heat path in meters.

Enter Cross-Sectional Area (A): Enter the surface area perpendicular to the heat flow path in m².

Calculate: The tool computes both the inherent Thermal Resistivity (ρth) of the chosen material and the Total Thermal Resistance (Rth) of the modeled component.

Method 2 of Thermal Resistance Calculator

Use this mode when evaluating active, operational equipment using thermal imaging and known power losses.

Enter Temperature Difference (ΔT): Enter the temperature gradient across the component/material in °C or K.

Enter Heat Flow / Power (Q): Enter the known dissipated power in Watts (W).

Calculate: The tool outputs the Total Thermal Resistance (Rth), allowing to quickly verify if the active component is degrading or operating within its thermal design limits.

Generating Project Reports

After running a successful calculation in either mode, a Download PDF button appears. Clicking it, generates a clean, offline report containing the specific input parameters, the exact mathematical formula applied, and the final calculated values. This native PDF is formatted specifically for appending to engineering design documentation, thermal analysis reports, or maintenance logs.
